The Queensland Council for LGBTI Health’s (QC) Training and Development Program ‘Rainbow Pride @ Work’ has been providing practical support to health and community services to build an open and inclusive rapport with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) clients in QLD since 2005 under it’s former name QLD AIDS Council.

QC has also been offering a consultancy service since 2012 to support organisations to become LGBTI inclusive not only for their clients but also their employees. This consultancy service, in partnership with Val’s Café Victoria and GLHV, offers intensive support for organisations working towards the Rainbow Tick LGBTI accreditation.

LGBTI cultural awareness training has been delivered to over 2500 service providers across many sectors over the years, and QC continues to develop resources to support organisations to provide LGBTI inclusive services. Guest presentation of between 1-2 hours cover a range of topics related to LGBTI people and their health.

FREE TRAINING*

Historically, LGBTI people have a shared experience of discrimination and prejudice. Many LGBTI elders have experienced violence, isolation, and stigma throughout their lives. These elders often do not disclose their identities or histories to services and can remain invisible in the aged care sector and broader community.

The Silver Rainbow LGBTI Aged Care Awareness Training Project is managed by the National LGBTI Heath Alliance and is being delivered collaboratively with project partners across every state and territory in Australia. It is funded by the Department of Health. For more information on Silver Rainbow program click here.

Silver Rainbow training will support your organisation to work towards meeting the new priorities under the National Aged Care Diversity Framework.  The 4 hr sessions will support aged care services and their staff to understand the needs of LGBTI elders, the experiences they have had to date and how they can change those experiences by becoming LGBTI inclusive in their practice. Participants will be provided with refreshments, a workbook and a certificate on completion of the training.

To register for upcoming open access sessions, please contact the Training and Development Coordinator on training@quac.org.au

For organisations requiring an in-service for their staff (20-25 people $250) please email your enquiry to training@quac.org.au and you will be contacted to arrange your session.
